2048 is a popular puzzle game that is typically played on a 4x4 grid. The game involves numbered tiles that can be moved in four directions using the arrow keys. Every turn, a new tile with a value of either 2 or 4 randomly appears in an empty spot on the board.
When a player moves a tile, it slides as far as possible in the chosen direction until it reaches either another tile or the edge of the grid. If two tiles of the same number collide while moving, they merge into a tile with the total value of the two tiles. The resulting tile cannot merge with another tile in the same move.
Tiles with higher values emit a soft glow, with the highest possible tile being 131,072. If three consecutive tiles of the same value slide together, only the two farthest tiles along the motion direction will combine. Additionally, if a row or column is filled with tiles of the same value, a parallel move will combine the first two and last two tiles.
A scoreboard on the upper-right corner of the screen keeps track of the player's score, which increases every time two tiles combine. The goal of the game is to reach a tile with a value of 2048, hence the name of the game. Once the 2048 tile is achieved, players can continue playing to achieve even higher scores.
